In 1894 FRANCIS ALEXANDER CHARLES GUTHRIE was admitted as an attorney and founded the firm Guthrie & Theron in Hermanus and Caledon. You will still see the firm operating in the Hermanus Main Road and surrounding towns.

In 1930 FRANCIS ALEXANDER CHARLES GUTHRIE'S son GORDON MALCOLM GUTHRIE was admitted as an attorney and joined his brother-in-law, also an attorney in practice in Cape Town. GORDON then formed Guthrie & Rushton with FRANCIS CYRIL RUSHTON. In 1965 GORDON'S son, FRANCIS ALEXANDER CHARLES GUTHRIE was admitted as an attorney and joined the firm, he still practices in the firm today.
