Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve lies in the Breede River valley, about 15km south of Robertson on the road to McGregor. The landscape here is rugged and striking with its Geology of sandstone and underlying shale formations.
The vegetation in this rocky part is known as Robertson Karoo. Succulents dominate including numerous dwarf trees and scrubs. Patches of mountain renosterveld are found on the higher ridges and hills. Sheet of botterblom daisies create a splash of orange in spring.
