Freshpak Fitness Festival

Providing all the features of a true multisport event, the annual Freshpak Fitness Festival will mark its 31st anniversary on Saturday 30 September in Clanwilliam. The scenic outdoor surroundings, challenging routes, comradery and a sense of accomplishment are the reason athletes come back year after year. Due to enthusiastically loyal support over the years, the event has reached this momentous milestone and will again see approximately 1 350 athletes gearing up to compete in various swimming, cycling and running challenges.

Every year the festival, which takes place in the heart of Rooibos country, pulls out all the stops with an exciting programme of multisport activities and entertainment. It has become a tradition for athletes, family, friends and travellers to descend on Clanwilliam to take part in and enjoy the great sporting and festive atmosphere.

The day kicks off with the 1.5km or 3km swim in the beautiful Clanwilliam dam, one of the best water-sport destinations in the Western Cape. The swim is followed by the duathlon (5km run/20km cycle/2.5km run) and biathlon (5km run/20km cycle) where participants put their speed and endurance to the test through the varied and challenging terrain. The main event, which opens the triathlon season for most athletes, is a sprint triathlon (800m swim/20km cycle/5km run) and a crowd favourite with many participants travelling nationally to compete. All athletes can compete individually or as part of a team in a relay. The younger kids can look forward to the FitKids challenge (1km run, 200m swim, 1km run) and the Run for Fun (1km).

Athletes and supporters are rewarded with breathtaking views of the rugged Cederberg landscapes overlooking the pristine waters of the Clanwilliam Dam and historic architecture as many will race through the more than 200 year old town.

To further commemorate three decades of fitness, wellbeing and family fun, a percentage of the proceeds raised from entry fees will be donated to CANSA's local branch that serves the West Coast region. Rooibos, which is grown only in the Cederberg, has antioxidant properties that fight cancer effectively and form part of a healthy lifestyle.
