Focus

Success is about impact, it is about building dreams and creating hope. Success is about taking others with you, being a leader, an advocate of greatness and spearheading change in building the spirit of UBUNTU, uplifting the community, “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”.
Based on the ripple effect phenomenon Focus is a non-profit tutoring and mentoring programme that aims to indentify hardworking youth and exploit their academic potentials. After experiencing a poor pass rate in the community and seeing that the learners were starting to lose interest in schooling and the educational system, it was bluntly clear that something had to be done to bring hope back into their lives.
 The programme selects learners in grade 10, ten in each class.
 Have mentors and tutors who are university students, who went to the same school and are based in the same area as the learners.
 A teaching staff that is composed of recently graduated teachers who are not yet employed by any schools.
 A group of learners is assigned a personal mentor.
 Every major subject gets a tutor and a tutorial once a week.
 Mentors and learners may arrange to have meeting as they feel suits their specific schedules.
 Each learner is going to be with the programme for a period of three years, from grade 10 up until grade 12.
 Tutorials run during school holidays (March, June and September).
