More about Feast in de Tuin

My parents bought an empty, rugged piece of land next to the Klippe Rivier in 1997, only 5 km outside of the beautiful historic town of Swellendam. Over the next few years they built a safe haven for their family. Now 18 years later it changed into a lush and beautiful natural garden with a wide variety of rare aloes, cycads and other succulents. There are more than 400 indigenous trees that reach towards heaven. This paradise is home to the Kemp Family, 4 cheeky cats, a dog or 2, a variety of bird life, guinea fowl, some tortoises and other wild life.
Because of the pleasure we get from this haven we have decided to share it with other like minded people. We want to offer a peaceful place for relaxing with coffee, tea or homemade lemon juice etc and delicious healthy eats – maybe served under the shade of a large tree with a beautiful view of the Langeberg Mountains in the background, or inside the Events Centre with a view on the indigenous garden. For now we are only open by reservation but hopefully in 2017 this could also change to receive walk-ins. We also do “take me home” refreshments. Our aim is to always have happy customers who had a relaxing and uplifting experience when they leave.
The garden produces many small trees and other plants that are now formally being put into bags and sold in the informal nursery. The organic vegetable garden should soon start to deliver fresh produce for the eEvents Centre or even to be sold. We also hope to start having guests stay over in our up-market accommodation from 2017.
We are child and dog-on-a-leash friendly, and promise your children will enjoy running around, swimming in the pool or viewing the farm animals next door. We also want families to visit and enjoy some traditional games like jukskei, croquet etc and spend some quality time as a family or group of friends. We will plan special events like a movie picnic night under the stars or even a star gazing picnic event with telescopes to watch the heavens with from time to time. We are also planning to do arts workshops and other informative get-togethers.
