As parents ourselves, we have lots of understanding and compassion for the challenges parents face today. Families of today have different faces, from the traditional nucleus family to the families composed out of a single parent with children or grandparents with children. The most important thing though, is that the children feel loved and secured in the family that they are in. This is the main aim of mediation and facilitation namely: ”What is the best for the child”. The new Child Act enforces this view. Parents can with the expertise of the facilitator/mediator contribute to the blue print of the changing structure of the family. Facilitation & Mediation Lounge deals greatly with post-divorce matters as well. As the children develop through the different development stages, their needs change as well. To assure that every one is on the same page, divorced parents use this mechanism as well, to avoid misunderstandings.

Initially, with mediation and facilitation, parents are anxious as they would be if they were in an intimidating court process. At Facilitation & Mediation lounge, it is our goal to create a family friendly forum for both parents and children. This process at the end of the day, have a much higher rate of bridge building and healing among the family members, than going through the court process. The process is also called an alternative dispute resolution (ADR), a process which is most welcomed in South Africa, as courts are flooded with divorce cases and other matrimonial matters. ADR is internationally recognised and well supported on many levels.

The Court process is very expensive on the pocket of ‘the man on the street’. Emotionally, is it also very taxing on the family as a whole. Pre- and post divorce facilitation or mediation usually consists out of 4-8 sessions. It is recognised as solution that is a whole lot less, cost and time effective.
