More about Dorothy Teke Library

Fred-Habedi Primary School Library, now known as the Dorothy Teke Library was established in the year 2000 after being adopted by the READ Trust.

The READ Trust, then led by Mr Sam Ndawo, established classroom libraries whereby it donated and sponsored the school with Library book boxes and books they were placed in the corner of every class.

Educators were trained on how to use reading books in class for story and picture reading, storytelling and language development.

In 2008, one classroom was identified and turned into a library and educators took turns in ensuring that the library was up and running.
Later that year, the principal of Fred-Habedi Primary School, the late Mr Jerry Padi, was approached by one of the schools’ former learner, Mr Mike Teke, regarding his interest in partnering with the school. Mr Teke wanted to plough back to the school and his vision was, and still is, to ensure that the learners acquire and receive the best reading and communication skills.

Mr Teke also revamped and furnished the classroom library. He promised to fill the library with books and he has kept the promise to this day.

The first Dorothy Teke Library Awards were held in December 2011 and have been held every year ever since. Every year,Mr Teke, awards the best academic achievers and best readers in every grade with a R3 000 Woolworths voucher each.

The first school librarian was Mrs Nomvula Madi from 2007-2011. Mrs Maliza Skhosana took the baton in 2012-2013 with the assistance from Mrs Isabella Mashabela.
In 2014, Mr Teke employed a full-time librarian, Miss Kamogelo Kgasoane, who makes sure that the Library is fully functional and accessible to the staff and learner at all times during school hours.

The library is now arranged and organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme and is one of the best libraries in its cluster.
