Den Vlier is situated 17 km from Ladismith, in the heart of the Klein Karoo, just off SA's well known R62. At the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains it is well situated to use as base to visit famous tourist attractions such as the Seweweekspoort, Swartberg Pass and 'The Hell', Kango Caves, Ronnie's Sex Shop and other attractions in and around the Klein Karoo.

In the reserve, the vistas and sheer sense of space are magnificent. The reserve is in the succulent Karoo plant biome and is thus Malaria and Bilharzia free.
