More about Darling ttu

A solo or team relay event riding multi laps over a 24 hour period on a fast single track. A race with a BIG difference. The idea is quite simple, you race as many laps as you can in 24 hours. The solo winner or team is the one with the most laps completed. The race starts at 10am on Saturday 30 September and finishes at 10 am on Sunday. You may start or stop whenever you want. Sleeping, eating, drinking and dancing is allowed.

The venue has lots of space for camping with showers, toilets, water, food stands, beer garden, a bike shop, bike wash, entertainment, power points for light and cell phone charge, free wifi and a huge Bedouin tent in the centre of the race village. This event is meant to be endurable and enjoyable.

A fantastic single-track course that is fast and challenging with loads of ups and downs ideal for both teams and solo entries. Based on a 10 km course, riders choose how many laps they want to race.
Encapsulating everything people love about mountain biking – the adventure, challenge, adrenaline fix, combined with fun social riding; and at the same time teasing out the little bit of competitiveness and thrill-seeker we all have inside of us.

Race hard downhill, have some laughs and tell a few tales at the bottom, then share in some banter whilst cruising. Stop and enjoy live music, with the best water points loaded full of goodies to eat and drink.

Heaps of prizes: Most solo laps, Most couple laps, Most team laps.

The event is held on the 10km track situated on !Khwa ttu with continuous stunning Atlantic views and single track thrills in the daylight hours, with the chance of spotting nocturnal visitors after dusk. The track has been designed to suit riders of all abilities.

The 2017 Darling ttu Enduro race is especially designed for hammering around single tracks, whilst still being a scenic and challenging route through pristine natural landscapes, making !Khwa ttu such a unique MTB destination.

Children between 6 and 12 years race for free on the shorter 3km course.

The venue offers facilities for camping, all on site, and a race village area that is complimented by a course with a superb reputation for variety and fun riding through perhaps the West Coasts finest scenery.

The route:
The Darling ttu route takes place on 10 km’s of beautiful, purpose built single track on the nature reserve. Passing several waterholes, bird hides and even a replica traditional San village. The thrilling route offers excellent views and amazing game encounters. This is for the adventurer who wants more than just riding on gravel roads and jeep tracks. You will want to ride this exciting trail again and again. The route is distinguished by its’ twists, zigzags and MANY BERMS.

Start off on a downhill with half a dozen defiant ramps where the trail crosses old contour walls. Less than 1km in, you wind across a narrow wooden bridge crossing a marshland, and then slowly start contouring upwards along a gentle ascent towards a granite outcrop and game watering hole. Climb the hill with long looping bends, to keep the ride edgy, amidst the Renosterveld ridges.

Summiting at the 5km point, a spectacular view over the scrub-covered plains unfolds towards the icy Atlantic Ocean. Drop down another km and you reach the !Khwa ttu boma, where a water point waits you. Stop, enjoy the scenery and make use of a loo with a view!
Once rested, saddle up for a technical rock-drop into an old quarry; it is wild, but for the faint of heart, there is the option of a chicken run.
Assuming you have made it down into the valley, a final climb awaits as you contour clock-wise along the adjoining koppie. You will pass a replica Bushman Village, and a game waterhole on the way. Keep your eyes open, chances are that you’ll see zebra, eland, springbok, bat-eared fox watching the action.

The last downhill kilometre to the race village is a play zone of note, with superb little jumps along a speedy trail section. This all comes together to make for a superb 10km ride, but the good news is that you get to go again.
