More about CT Organics

Our goal is to apply holistic farming best practice that is environmentally responsible, practical and beneficial to the local community. We intend to produce nutritious, tasty food that the consumer WANTS to eat while minimising our reliance on synthetic and external inputs by working with nature and to harness natural energy sources. This will be achieved through the rollout of following projects:

Sustainable energy

It is our intention to utilise energy sources that are sustainable. Close collaboration with a local expert in renewable energy systems has provided us with the opportunity to farm off the grid by gradually converting all our energy consumption requirements that operate off conventional energy to renewable energy solutions over time. We are phasing in an integrated energy production system powered by solar, biogas, wind energy and other renewable sources which began with the conversion of all geysers to solar and now effluent water is captured for biogas production.

Aquaponics

The concept of aquaponics is very simple. Aquaponics is the integration of hydroponics(growing vegetables) and aquaculture(growing fish). In effect, we have created our own little ecosystem where fish provide nutrients for the plants to thrive while the plants purify the water for the fish. This symbiotic approach to food production enables us to produce nutritious natural food in spatially challenged areas safely and conveniently. Due to the damage that artificial spray residue would cause to our fish stock, all pest controls are natural. The system is completely closed and therefore water is only lost through evaporation and transpiration. The end result is a system that is many times more water efficient than conventional food production systems. All production waste is composted in earthworm bins and used to fertilize our pastures.

Pasture reared beef and chickens

Pasture reared beef and chickens are raised on biodiverse perennial pastures. The idea is to bio-mimic nature by copying the concept of migratory grazing where a large number of animals are kept on a single piece of ground for a short period of time before being rotated to fresh pasture to only return once the pasture has fully re-grown. The animals are provided with nutritious grazing while at the same time they circulate nutrients back to the soil.

We live in a world today where information is more readily available than ever before and has enabled the modern consumer to demand products that are healthy, environmentally friendly and tasty. Increased pressure from the public is now forcing the producer to rethink their present methods to provide for enhanced supply while not placing additional pressure on increasingly scarce resources. Our passion is to pioneer this movement so that we can do our small part in providing a future for generations to come.
