Corder Wines

Corder Family Wines are a life-long dream. The 39 ha farm was purchased by Ian and Anette Corder in 2003. This beautiful farm was originally planted to apples, pears and plums, and slowly replanted to varieties that have proven to do well in the cool climate of Elgin.

The farm is situated in the Elgin Valley Plateau, which is at least 300m above sea level. The sea is not far away (as the crow flies), and its influence is brought closer by summer's prevailing winds. The soils, being weathered Bokkeveld Shale or Glenrosa, buffer the vines against heat and drought stress and keep the ground loose for healthy root growth.

The vineyards are positioned on rolling hills on the cooler south-eastern slopes so that they engage all the elements in perfect balance. In the mornings, the Valley is often filled with a white, cooling mist that so typifies the gentle climate and contributes to grapes for superlative wines.

A total of 14 hectares of grapes were planted, and include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and a tiny block of Viognier.
