Under the Competition Act, the Competition Authority is empowered to:
1. Ensure that fair and transparent business practices exist in the economy in Botswana
2. Regulate mergers and acquisitions
3. Investigate and assess vertical and horizontal agreements in the economy
4. Monitor and control acts of monopolisation or abuse of market power
5. Review possible exemptions to the application of the Act, in the public interest
6. Prosecute offenders before the Commission
7. Advise Government on policies, laws and other activities that affect fair competition in the economy
