Calitzdorp Country House

Our accommodation includes five luxurious air-conditioned bedrooms with king-sized beds, each with its own private patio.
The rooms are furnished in South African Karoo style and graced with a fabulous collection of original South African paintings. Original Oregon wood floors add to the overall elegance of the house. En suite bathrooms include shower, twin washbasins on Italian granite slabs and outsize baths that invite intimate candle-lit meetings!
The luxurious feel extends to the elegant and spacious dining and sitting rooms, where ceiling fans produce gentle swirls of cooling air. In hotter conditions, air conditioning throughout the House easily copes with your need for comfort.
Dining and sitting rooms flow out to a flagstone-paved courtyard, ideal for fresh morning breakfasts or al fresco dining on hot still summer evenings, or just for lazing, drink in hand whilst enjoying the scenery.
The courtyard’s restful water fountain looks over the long view westwards across a blue sparkling swimming pool and gazebo, green vineyards and lush orchards, with a backdrop of the stark and dramatic Swartberg Mountains.
Throughout the house, the Karoo style sash windows and wood and glass panelled doors are sometimes covered in the afternoons to keep out the fierce African sun.
The cool shade of a verandah surrounds three sides of the house, inviting you to relax on 19th century Cape riempie banke (traditional rawhide-strung farm benches), and enjoy a feast of bird life in the trees surrounding our small dam.
Enjoy the spectacular South African sunsets behind the Swartberg Mountains and the splendid Southern night skies that you can only find in Africa.
