Be LEKKA fund

For those of you that don't know us, here is a little history on how the Be lekke fund started....

We, Liesel Alkers and Moog Muller , together with our three lively, awesome children, have been living in Wilderness for 14 years. We have been running a business, Otherworld Tattoo, in Knysna for 10 years. This month, June 2017, being our 10th Birthday month! Moog is also South Africa's only coil tattoo machine builder and on his off days he likes flying spaceships at trance parties. I play around with clay and crystals when I have a chance.

The devastating fires of the 7th of June 2017 changed the lives of all living on the Garden Route forever.
Our great friend, tattooist and piercer, Gabrielle Serfontein was at the Disaster Management Centre from the day the fires ravaged Knysna. Her husband Leon Serfontein was fighting fires and evacuating people for days. After working the call centre phone for hours and making close to 10 000 sandwiches! Gaby turned her attention to sorting tons of donations. After a couple of days she realised there was a need for a CBD depot for the traumatised people that could not stand in qeues for hours. Most of these people with only the clothes on their backs. Gaby then had a fantastic idea and took it upon herself to open a pop up relief shop for these traumatised people. This happened on the 13th of June, from there it just snowballed, Moog got hold of a good guy, Graig Psymantis, who was delivering tons of donations to affected areas. He brought us the first two tons and then the donations came flooding in, even our friends from Cape Town, Mielies and Marisa arrived with a Vito stacked to the top with clothes and household items. For days we packed and sorted bags for people, some so traumatised they couldn't even dress themselves. We had another week of helping people and hearing their incredible stories. One thing we saw over and over, and that is that PEOPLE ARE AMAZING! Our businesses were closed for over two weeks but we didn't mind at all, what we have learnt in that time was way more valuable.
While our relief shop was up and running , our amazing friends from all over the world started supporting us with cash donations! We saw a plea from Mandala Health Sedgefield that was in desperate need of supplies and a top up in their wildlife fund. Our vet Anuska , was treating and euthanising animals at her own expense. We decided to give her R5000 towards her fund. Then came the next facebook plea from David Ryan Katz. This guy was fighting fires non stop since it started. A week after the initial fires he turned his attention to the wildlife and realized that they needed help. We saw his plea and we started funding him to feed our wildlife. Thanks to all our friends! …..with generous donations flowing in we asked our buddy from Nedbank, Brett van Vuuren to help us with a bank account to keep it separate from our personal account. Brett and Clint set up the BE LEKKA fund in record time.
