Avoca Shree Lutchmee Narain Temple - Durban, South Africa

Our Temple was established in 1911 when a little shrine was erected on this land donated by neighbouring residents. The 506 square metres of land was transferred to the Hindu Worshippers of Avoca under a trusteeship in 1932. Subsequently further additions were made by the devotees. The Temple became the hub of all activities in the greater Avoca area.

By 1990 the wood and iron Temple had deteriorated badly and it was decided to construct a new temple on the site. With total support from the community, this venture was completed and the official opening took place in 1993. The 506 square metres was now too small and the area had to be increased. This was achieved in 1997 when the land area was increased to approximately 2000 square metres. The increased number of attendants and many functions necessitated the extension of the Temple which was completed in 2011. A grand centenary celebration was held in 2011. With the grace of Shree Lutchmee Narain, the Temple is growing by leaps and bounds.
