The Alliance Française Street music festival « Fête de la Musique » is a worldwide event, originally created in France, aiming at promoting local music as it allows both amateurs and professional musicians to perform.
La Fête de la Musique is a free event in France. The artists are not paid to perform and the audience do not pay to watch the performances. This is the whole spirit of the Fête de la Musique.
In Port Elizabeth this event has been organized by the Alliance Française for the past 6 years which has developed into a signature event in the Nelson Mandela Bay and is now called the Richmond Hill Music Festival.
Last year, more than 25,000 people attended and 13 bands with both local and international artists performed for 8 hours.
