More about After Dark - Poi

It's been well over a decade since Britt and Michele were first introduced to the amazing art of poi dancing and from the very beginning they were both completely smitten by the beauty and grace that the art has to offer.

Well into the 'swing' of things and after many many hours of practice and dedication, they are both proudly on an intermediate level of poi dancing and enjoy performing at any given opportunity.

Wanting to spread the enjoyment and love for poi around South Africa, they decided to join forces and started up After Dark. Making it easier and more cost effective to get hold of LED poi in South Africa.

So here we are :) After Dark sells high quality soft LED poi.

Our durable LED poi can be set to any of the 7 colour options available, as well as a slow or fast fade through all 7 colours for an amazing overall effect.

Each LED poi is attached to a durable cord, swivel and two finger butterfly grip.

Our awesome LED poi sell for R450 a set, which includes a handmade carry bag, to keep them safe. Don't wait weeks wondering if your poi is on it's way, order today and receive your poi in under 5 working days.*

Don't forget to add a set of white poi socks to your order and watch the LED light travel up the white sock as you spin, for extra visual effect. Add your set of sock poi for just R50.

So what is poi exactly?

Poi refers to both a style of performing art and the equipment used for engaging in poi performance. As a performance art, poi involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns.

Poi originated with the Māori people of New Zealand, where it is still practiced today. Poi has also gained a following in many other countries. The expansion of poi culture has led to a significant evolution of the styles practiced, the tools used, and the definition of the word "poi."

Modern poi borrows significantly from other physical arts, including various schools of dance and many object manipulation arts. Poi is practiced around the world and can often be seen at large festivals.

Poi can be performed in the dark to dramatic effect when spinners use poi containing a light source, such as LED lights. Creating a breathe taking hypnotic effect, that is sure to leave spectators in awe.

Happy Spinning!
