3. COMPANY HISTORY

Veronica Singh and Associates has been in existence since June 2002 operating from offices situated in the town of Stanger. It started as a sole proprietorship comprising of Mrs Veronica Singh as the Principal. Subsequent thereto many candidate attorneys have successfully completed their internship with the company.

In March 2010 the company moved premises to 45 North Street, Stanger.

The company was joined by Mr Suran Singh as a professional Assistant in October 2010.

In March 2014 the company became a partnership comprising of Mrs Veronica Singh and Mr Suran Singh.

In February 2012 the partnership contracted Mr Sihle Ngcobo as a candidate attorney who has successfully been admitted as an attorney in April 2014. Mr Ngcobo is currently employed in the capacity of a Professional Assistant with the partnership.

The partnership intends incorporating with Mrs Veronica Singh, Mr Suran Singh and Mr Sihle Ngcobo becoming Managing Directors once Mr Ngcobo has fulfilled the requirements of the Law Society which is on the brink of completion.

The incorporation is expected to start operating from 2 January 2015.

The partnership is currently contracted to and undertakes work for the following institutions apart from individuals and other juristic persons:

4. HISTORICAL PROFILE OF MANAGING DIRECTORS

MANAGING DIRECTOR : MRS V. SINGH
QUALIFICATIONS : B.A.LLB (UDW)

After having completed both degrees, she attended the Practical Legal Training School and commenced Articles of Clerkship with Attorney Khatija Tootla & Company which was then ceded to Attorneys Charles Pillai & Company in Overport. On the 23rd of January 1996 she successfully completed her Professional Examination in Practice and Procedure. Mrs Singh went on to work as a Professional Assistant for Attorneys Charles Pillai & Company, after which she was called upon to serve as a Relief Prosecutor and then promoted to the position of Magistrate to the Eastern Cape. Mrs Singh also served as a Professional Assistant and Administrator with Burwana & Associates. This position entailed heading the civil section and administering the practice in respect of both staff and finance. She also attended to various High Court matters with the Municipality of Queenstown. The principle client being the Illinge Steering Committee, a committee, that was set up by the Municipality but elected by the community. The main function was that of advisor to the various sub-committees, on issues of labour. She was also responsible for liaising between the community and the municipality, thereby also being responsible for the finalization of projects including the building of a community hall and the installation of a septic tank, building of houses and the overall improvement of the future of the community. She was tasked with reviewing and interpreting contracts, regulations and by-laws as well as forming opinions, drafting contract agreements and rendering advice with regard to business plans. She left the Eastern Cape in March 2002 and subsequently set up private practice in Kwa-Dukuza in June 2002.

Mrs Singh has since the company been in existence successfully litigated in the District, Regional, High and Appeal Courts on both civil and criminal matters. Apart from litigating in these various forums Mrs Singh has served and is usually invited to serve in the Kwazulu-Natal High Court as Assessor.

MANAGING DIRECTOR : SURAN SINGH
QUALIFICATIONS : BA; HDE; MA; LLB

Mr Singh qualified as an educator in 1990 whereafter he was appointed to Piet Retief Secondary in Mpumulanga Province. In 1994 he was transferred to Wyebank Primary School and subsequently to Cathcart Secondary School in the Eastern Cape. He is married to Mrs Veronica Singh. In 2002 he was transferred to Nonhlevu Secondary School in Stanger and resigned from the employ of the state in 2005. He joined Prakash Kusial Attorneys as a Candidate Attorney and was admitted as an Attorney in August 2010.

Mr Singh has since October 2010 been with the company accepting partnership in March 2014.

ASPIRANT MANAGING DIRECTOR : SIHLE NGCOBO
QUALIFICATIONS : LLB

Mr Ngcobo was born in Hammersdale, lived at Maphumulo (then Kraskop) in the area of Mambomvini under the tribe of Indukende from the age of 2 to the age of 14.

He attended Ogagwini Primary School from grade 1 to 7 and grade 8 & 9 at Theo Hlalanathi High School. Both schools were situated in the Mambomvini Area.

He together with his family left Maphumulo to reside in the area of KwaDukuza in 2003. He attended Stanger M.L. Sultan Secondary School from grade 10 to grade 12 which he completed in 2007.

He was admitted to University of Zululand in 2008 to study LLB. He was elected Deputy Secretary in the executive of the BLA Student Society and was a Criminal Law tutor for 2nd year students.

After completion of his degree he has been with Veronica Singh & Associates since 24 February 2012 having successfully completed the PLT course and the Attorney’s Board Exams.

He was admitted on 8th April 2014 and is currently occupying a position as a Professional Assistant. He is also currently completing a Practice Management Course.

Mr Ngcobo hails from a large, close-knit family. He has three brothers, one being a State Advocate at Pietermaritzburg High Court; the other is a Mathematics & Science teacher at Ulundi currently doing his Honours degree; and one recently completed N5 in Civil Engineering and is studying towards his LLB degree at University of Zululand.

He has three sisters, one is doing her nursing studies at Mepho Nursing School, one is employed at Hesto Harnesses, and one is currently completing her grade 12 at Stanger Secondary School.

The company is currently staffed with the following:

- 1 receptionist
- 1 Messenger/driver
- 1 General Assistant

Who are long serving and more than adequately qualified to ensure the successful, efficient and smooth running of the office on a day to day basis. The company operates as a close-knit family with each person understanding their roles and contributing to the desired outcome.
