Situated on spectacular Devil’s Peak, UCT is Africa’s oldest and foremost university. Three worldwide rankings have placed UCT among the world’s top 200 institutions, the only African university to have achieved this distinction. UCT is research-led; the premier academic meeting point between South Africa, the continent and the world, and committed to addressing the key issues of our natural world.

The university moved to its spectacular Groote Schuur campus on Rhodes’ Estate on the slopes of Devil’s Peak in 1928 and has satellite campuses in Observatory, the Gardens and the Breakwater Campus on the popular V&A Waterfront.

UCT has over 26 500 students from more than 100 countries and produces graduates whose qualifications are internationally recognised and locally applicable, underpinned by values of engaged citizenship and social justice.

Thirty-six sports clubs (from aikido to yachting) and over 100 academic, faith, cultural and political societies cater for students, complement the academic programme and encourage holistic development. These clubs and societies are administered by the students themselves.
