We are a non-profit organization called Umlalazi St. Thomas Health Project (USTHP), which operates in Eshowe at Umlalazi Reserve under the Umlalazi Municipality. USTHP was established 13 years ago in 2002, mainly to provide support and care for the sick and those living with HIV and AIDS, with the assistance of Community Caregivers. In the year of 2005/2006, our organization was upgraded to a drop -in center to assist orphans and vulnerable children, and more recently in 2013, constituted as a community care center. In addition to providing support to the entire village of Umlalazi, the organization provides cooked lunch, Monday-Friday, to approximately 181children daily. The children and youth who benefit from the resources provide by our organization range from the age of 3 to 18 years. The mission of Umlalazi St. Thomas Health Project is to fight against poverty, decrease the impact of HIV and AIDS in the community, create job opportunities, and to develop sustainability in the community and organization itself.
