More about Ubuntu Care and Development Organisation

Ubuntu Care and Development Organisation (Ubuntu Hospice) was founded as a response to the growing challenges associated with HIV/AIDS epidemic. Ubuntu has worked tirelessly to break down the stigma attached to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The organisation has since expanded into tackling other social issues and socio-economic challenges. Some of which include; food security, income generation, home and community-based care, community dialogues, orphaned and vulnerable children care and after school programme and the 2014 introduced Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights programme introduced by Aids Foundation South Africa, which includes among other issues; Medical Male Circumcision, Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision, gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS, adolescence and teenage pregnancy, LGBTI and rights.

The organisation has since ventured to Early Childhood Development. Ubuntu Early Childhood Development Centre, which was established in 2012 provides learning and support appropriate to the child's development age and stage that allows children to make full use of their emerging skills and abilities in a safe, healthy, supportive and caring environment. Our programmes have been guided by the needs we have identified while working within the community.

In 2014, the organisation became a conduit to the Non-Centre Based Early Childhood Programme, which mentors and supports practitioners and works with families of children who do not attend early childhood services. We believe that if we are to serve the needs of children, the best way to achieve this is by working with and supporting parents/guardians
In 2015, Ubuntu became a conduit to the Self-Help Group Programme introduced by Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, where community groups are formed consisting of women with specific skills; sewing, gardening and poultry. Its core objective is to encourage groups to save money and in-turn sustain themselves and their families.
