Tierfontein Conservancy Farm 51

Hoopoe House is situated on Tierfontein Conservancy Farm 51, facing the pristine fynbos cloaked mountains and kloof of this beautiful lifestyle farm, some 6 km from the sleepy, unspoilt community of Baardskeerdersbos, in the Overberg.

One would not at first glance suspect that this double volume, 3 bedroomed house with its wide covered stoep, is in fact built using sandbags, The only clue is a little unplastered square, that allows one to see the internal structure of the walls.

Enter the house through the ‘wetroom’, a place to kick off your boots and hang up your jacket after a winter walk in the mountain or hang up your towels after a summer swim in the dam. The wetroom leads into the farm house kitchen which has a gas top stove and oven and is kitted out with all the toys you need for a home from home cooking experience. The pantry has a family sized fridge, so bring along supplies for cozy winter feasts or al fresco entertaining at the braai on the stoep. We have stocked the pantry with herbs and spices, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Should you decide that the cooking staff also requires a break, you can turn to a number of local eateries within a radius of 25 or so kilometres.

The double volume lounge has a cosy fireplace with plenty of wood available. Relax with a good book on the comfortable couches or gather friends/family around for a game of chess or scrabble. The bookshelves are full of books for adults and kids. There is a flat screen with USB connection so bring that hard drive/memory stick with movies if you feel like a movie night. On the other hand, once you experience the perfect stillness of a Baardskeerdersbos night and a sky so dark and clear that the stars take your breath away, you might not want plug in.

The house has 3 double rooms, 2 of which are en suit (shower, basin and toilet). The master bedroom has double doors leading out onto the stoep. The other 2 rooms are upstairs overlooking the lounge. Crisp cotton bedding and comfortable beds will leave you feeling well rested and spoilt. Bath towels are provided but please bring along swimming towels!

There is also an outside shower on the stoep with a view of the mountain and waterfall beckoning you to come and enjoy the fynbos and the abundant birdlife that resides there.

The pond in the garden is attractive to birds and frogs. A path next to the pond leads you to the perfect swimming dam, fed by mountain streams and framed by water lilies. Swim or simply chill out on the grassed bank with your picnic basket and unwind. The quiet is palpable.
