More about The Springbok Experience Rugby Museum

The museum features more than 60 audio visual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. It makes a perfect venue for exclusive corporate events as well.

And there are games for children and adults alike where they can test their kicking, passing, fitness and reaction skills in the interactive ‘Springbok Trials’ games zone. There’s even a flagship Springbok shop.

The Springbok Experience is a museum – but much more than that – offering fun for all the family. It overlooks the main shopping precinct of one of Africa’s busiest visitor attractions – the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town – and comes complete with its own set of rugby poles in font of the elegant stand-alone building, Portswood House.

It is open from 10am to 6pm (every day except Christmas Day) and takes visitors on an interactive journey through the fascinating story of South African rugby from the 1860s right up to modern times.

It also tells the ‘hidden’ story of black rugby history for the first time and pulls no punches in placing rugby in South Africa’s social history as a sometimes divisive and ultimately unifying force. If you’re wondering what to do in Cape Town, you must visit the Springbok Experience.

For those wishing to host corporate team building events, the Springbok Experience is an ideal stop off point for an ‘amazing race’ while for larger corporate events in Cape Town the museum fronts onto a large croquet lawn which is available for hire from the V&A Waterfront.

Opening hours: 09h00 to 17h00 (last entry at 16h30), Tuesdays to Sundays. The SE will be closed on Mondays (excluding Public Holidays and between 1 December and 16 January every year), and Christmas Day.
