More about The Movement Lab

"PERFECT Balance of Body and Mind, is that quality in civilized man, which not only gives him superiority over the savage and animal kingdom, but furnishes him with all the physical and mental powers that are indispensible for attaining the goal of Mankind – HEALTH and HAPPINESS." Joseph Hubertus Pilates

The Movement Lab teaches a contemporary approach to the original method devised by Joseph Pilates in the 1920"s, called STOTT PILATES. STOTT PILATES exercises focus on core strength and torso stability, and exercises can be mat or equipment based. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and functioning optimally, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the abdominals, back and pelvic muscles which in turn improve alignment and posture, and increase balance and flexibility.

The Movement Lab is an accredited STOTT PILATES Licensed Training Centre (Toronto, Canada) offering internationally recognized Pilates courses. These range from mat and equipment based courses/workshops, to those based on rehabilitation. We also offer examinations and continuing education credits. Our courses and workshops are accredited by REPSSA (Register of Exercise Professionals of SA); HPCSA (Health Professional Council of SA); and SASP (SA Society of Physiotherapists) so CPD points are applicable.

The Movement Lab caters for everyone. We offer private; semi-private and various group classes in the perfect environment to focus and derive enjoyment from your exercise regime.

We will undertake to teach you how to creatively blend the power of your mind with movement of your body in a way that is both efficient and enjoyable.
