Thala Estate is situated in the heart of the malaria-free Eastern Cape, just 5km from the small farming village of Sterkstroom, 60km from Queenstown. Within 3 hours of the airport in East London and approximately 5 hours from Port Elizabeth by road, Thala is also 4 hours by road from a major centre, Bloemfontein. Roads are in good condition and an excellent airfield in Queenstown can easily accommodate Charter flights.

Thala Estate receives good summer rainfall, but winters can be chilly and occasionally experiences snowfalls. However, winter days are generally fairly mild with fine weather and amazing cloud formations appearing.

Thala, which is over 5 000 hectares in extent, is flanked by mountainous terrain and a large plateau forms part of the estate. The various natural habitats, including acacia forest, indigenous mountain flora, open plains, sweet veld , flood plains and riverine vegetation encourage a wide and balanced variety of species to thrive. In addition, the estate supports a wide variety of birds including raptors and waterfowl, some of which are seasonal visitors.

The Main Lodge and adjacent annexe provide for the discerning client a luxury experience in lavishly furnished rooms. We also provide excellent cuisine and an overall experience which is arguably unrivalled. In addition, we offer a beautiful heated swimming pool with thatched lapa where guests may enjoy their leisure hours in the tranquil surroundings of the estate.
Our team of experienced professional hunters, lodge manageress , trackers, skinners and a number of support staff will see to your every need to ensure an enjoyable experience.
In addition to Thala, we have access to a further minimum 25 000 hectares of mixed farming and extensive ranch land on which we can offer hunting of certain valuable animals which occur naturally in large numbers.

Just ‘chilling” – an early morning at Thala often displays a wide variety of animals and birds almost on your doorstep, which you can enjoy whilst having your early morning cuppa. The surroundings are so peaceful that both hunters and non-hunting guests alike will feel refreshed and spiritually renewed after your stay. Of course, leisurely breakfasts, morning tea, light lunches, swimming, strolling around the environs, reading a book until drinks and dinner whilst being surrounded by the natural beauty and wildlife will be all you need to relax body and mind.
