Welcome to Surge Pilates.
My name is Sophia, I am a Qualified BASI (Body Arts and Science International) Pilates instructor. I grew up in Cape Town and studied at the Waterfront Theatre College majoring in dance. My dance training gave me the opportunity to travel and teach abroad where I discovered my passion for Pilates. Becoming a Pilates instructor has changed my approach to everything I do in both my professional and personal life.
My aim as a Pilates instructor is to give my clients the tools they need to achieve their goals, whether it’s training for the next big race, recovering from an injury, or being able to live life pain free. Everyone has individual needs which are met by training privately or in small groups.

WHAT IS PILATES?
Developed by Joseph Pilates, it is a system of exercises that emphasises quality over quantity. This mindful approach to the repertoire is what makes Pilates so successful at creating balanced, strong, flexible and graceful bodies. Pilates has become extremely popular in recent years, this due to the fact that Pilates is so diverse and adaptable. Anyone can do it! Pilates exercises focus on developing a strong flexible core, good posture and alignment. With a properly developed and well engaged core the body is able to move freely and efficiently.
