More about Roastin' Records Live / Suntravolta

Suntravolta - "To be overwhelmed by the sun", is a surf / travel / beach bar in long street that indulges night life!

It is located the iconic building which dates back to 1902. It was designed by the famous British architect George Ransome who was renowned for his luxury hotel designs in Europe. The Victorian four storey building has an incredible history which has evolved with the ages, from being a hotel in the early days, to apartments in the 1940’s, a “house of pleasure” in the 1960’s and 70’s, and has been an international travelers club since the early 1990’s. Many Legends resided here over the decades, including Koos Kombuis and South African satirist Pieter Dirk Uys (Evita Bezuidenhout). Pieter Dirk Uys wrote a play in the 1970’s based on his observations of this building and it’s institutions, it was called “Karnaval” (Afrikaans for Carnival). After ten screenings it was banned by the sensors due to its hilarious, lustful and offensive nature to the regime. The “ways” of Carnival Court has not changed over the decades. Being content, wild, generous, care free and board minded has always been the character. Amongst these legends, is also an Italian bohemian “dancer” who arrived at the Cape Town port in her early 20’s, circa 1964. She went by the name “Paradise”, a saltwater girl who surfed, traveled and broke hearts in search of the perfect waves and most erotic beaches around the world. She was a wanderlust, wild, intelligent and mystical in her ways. Poems written of her described her as being “sun travolta”-To be overwhelmed by the sun. [Italian {verb}]
