More about South African Youth Leaders Network - Sheba Bokamoso

South African Youth Leaders Network (SAYLN) exists to promote social cohesion between South Africans by implementing innovative Managing Diversity projects with a focus on Youth. SAYLN’s core work is described as follows:

• Organising Managing Diversity Youth Events and Camps for young people of all SA provinces.

• Implementing Annual Youth Conferences with delegates from individual members and member organisations.

• Transferring Managing Diversity skills through workshops, events and camps...

Since 2010, to date SAYLN consists of 14 organisations from four South African provinces that attend the Annual Youth Conference and the bi-annual Managing Diversity Youth Camps.

In 2010 a total of 250 young people between the ages of 14 – 25 attended the Bopha Siyakhona soccer camp that was hosted in Pietermaritzburg at Hilton College.

In 2011, 14 networking organizations met at the Annual Youth Conference that took place in Bethlehem.

2012 saw the implementation of Sheba Bokamoso soccer camp in Johannesburg as hosted by one of the network members. A total of 250 young people from four provinces attended that camp.

In 2012, 14 network members met in Amanzimtoti, Kwazulu Natal (KZN) for the Annual Youth Conference.

In 2013, 14 network members met again for the Annual Youth conference that was hosted by Western Cape Community Foundation (WCCF) in Melkbosstrand, Cape Town.

In 2014, over 250 youth met at Back2Basics campsite for another Sheba Bokamoso youth camp coordinated by one of the member organisations (Africa Jam).

In March 2015, a trainer's training took place in Umdloti, Kwa-Zulu Natal where the individual members and member organisations were trained on an Active Citizenship Process manual designed and developed by CIELARKO International Management Consultants (based in Muizenberg, Cape Town). The purpose of the manual is for the trainers to plough back to their communities and preach the Active Citizenship gospel.

In August 2015, 14 network members met at Amanzimtoti, Kwa-Zulu Natal for a follow-up on the implementation of the Active Citizenship Process Manual.

The purpose of the Annual Youth Conference as well as the bi-annual Managing Diversity camps is to give training opportunities for attendees on the issues of nation-building and social cohesion. These activities are learning and sharing platforms for network members. As indicated in pre and post evaluations (quantitative and qualitative questionnaire results) of the camps and conferences, the young people indicated huge shifts in behaviour and awareness of cultural, sex, class and racial diversity.
