Sedgefield is a small seaside village situated alongside the Swartvlei estuary in the Garden Route of South Africa and is amidst the Wilderness and Goukamma National Parks.

Sedgefield is 35 km from George on the road to Knysna, next to a beautiful lagoon on the Indian Ocean, and has five stunning beaches. Trains of bottle nosed dolphins can be seen in the waves with whales visiting frequently, especially the southern right whale is common here in early summer.

The area has the most unspoilt natural environment, boasting 14km of pristine beaches, stretching from Gericke’s Point to the Goukamma National Park; lakes, lagoons, mountains, streams, forests and a friendly town with all the amenities a tourist town requires.

The Village atmosphere is reflected in the town’s motto of being a place where ‘the tortoise sets the pace’. In September 2010, Sedgefield was accredited as the first ‘Cittaslow’ Slow Town in Africa. It now has an annual Slow Festival that takes place around Easter, a Slow Food movement and a number of activities that are specifically related to the slow way of life. The Village is also renowned for the award winning Wild Oats Community Farmers Market every Saturday, and the Scarab Village for a wide and diverse range of arts and crafts.

Arguably one of the most beautiful parts of the Garden Route in South Africa, Sedgefield is unique in that it offers great attractions and it’s warm, temperate climate makes it the perfect all-year-round destination for the whole family.

Sedgefield offers various magnificent hiking and biking trails and you can be revitalised by soul inspiring walkabout's and even moonlight meanders along the coast line! Apart from just simply splashing around, swimming and sun bathing, the area offers a variety of water sports like sailing, canoeing, sand up paddling, wake boarding, water skiing, snorkeling, boat cruises, peddling, kite surfing as well as rock and surf fishing. With good offshore winds, Sedgefield is undeniably a veritable paragliding hotspot, with no shortage of sites perfect for this activity along the adjacent coast.
