More about Sawela Arts Programme

Our cutting edge programme outline

Mobilization: through Sawela Artist Union (SAU) we conduct extensive recruitment, preparation and training of grassroots artists to expand on the Artistic, Economic, Social and Legal matters for our union members and we will then channel particular benefits through a long-term commitment of a five year activities based programs geared toward the development and transformation of the arts, culture and heritage sector.

Development: we apply a five year individual grassroots artist skills transfer objective linkage process over a determined period. We do this through a set of developmental milestones and systematically connected strategies, based on our objectives model including SAU Structure as follows: Development as Yr1, Workshop Yr2, Strategic Hubs Yr3, Arts NPOs Yr4 and arts Exchange Yr5. We partner directly with District Municipalities to reach Provincial, Local Municipalities and recruit 100 candidates with the view to capacitate them for over a three months period and formulate a joint Local Municipality SAU leadership and forum structure as Yr1.

Transformation: we reach the public arts community within the District Municipality and stimulate SAU’s full and Voluntary Membership while we implement transformational programs inspired by multi-sector initiatives. We drive this mission with the objective of preparing artists to reposition their interests, skills through a refined developmental perspective for Arts, Culture and Heritage sector. We achieve our goals through our six flagship programs which use a multi pronged strategy to complete our youth and community transformation goals through implementation in the Arts, Culture and Heritage Sector, Skills Development Sector, HAST Sector, Youth Development Sector, Recreation Sector, and Communications Sector. This will be done through short-term and ongoing projects accompanied by annual events.

Empowerment: we entrench a culture of self responsibility, commitment, international cooperation with a particular reliance on and link to the market, economy, community, government and like-minded developmental institutions. Our immediate outcomes are celebration of diversity, honoring cultural sovereignty, captivating programs, arts and performance centricity, quality training and cohesion also with a strong cultural preservation legacy. In the course of the delivery of our programs, we further scout for raw talent of the arts from our target audience in the schools, churches and the community at large. It is critical to professionalize local entrepreneurs to identify and take full advantage of available opportunities and accelerate market expectations through localized arts events and showcases. The realization of this will be when we apply extensive outreach programs centered around but not limited to; Arts competitions, Arts Workshops, Arts Awards, Arts Festivals, Arts Networking Seminars, Arts Village and Arts College.
