More about Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sport School

ROSINA SEDIBANE MODIBA SPORT SCHOOL
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sport School was established on the 24th of January 2003 by the former MEC of Education Department of Gauteng, Mr. Ignatius Jacobs as a school of focused learning in sports. The primary purpose of the school of focused learning was to affirm the development of sustainable human capital in a country where the majority of the population lacks skills to support social and economic growth. Rosina Sedibane Modiba is the only sport school within a distinct category of public schools in the province, targeting learners from disadvantaged and underprivileged backgrounds.
Rosina Sedibane is based in the former Transvaal College of education in Laudium, Pretoria. The school is catering for highly gifted learners from financially challenged backgrounds and these athletes all resides in two separate hostels and even stays over for weekends. The sporting codes offered at the school are: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Rugby, Tennis, Swimming, Soccer and Gymnastics. Highly qualified coaches through the South African structures are in charge of athletes in various codes and some of the coaches are educators at the school.
The school thus far has an excellent proven track record. Six codes Basketball, Netball, Tennis, Soccer, Athletics and Gymnastics participated internationally since the invention of the school. It is therefore evident that the development of the athletes is at the fore front in the school. The balance between sport and academics is well kept and this has shown when the school produced a 100% pass rate of Matriculates in 2011 and striving to keep the rate even for years to come. The school currently has 538 learners enrolled from grade 08 up until grade 12 of which 276 are boys and 262 girls. The infrastructure allows enough space for all learning and teaching aspects.
