Overstrand Child And Youth Care Centre

The Overstrand Child & Youth Care Center is a registered residential Children’s Home for the care, education and resocialization of 26 children; it is the only registered children’s home in the Overberg district. Children are placed in the care of the center by court due to the fact that they have been abused, abandoned and neglected and not necessarily due to behavioral problems as most people sadly assume…
The overall aim of the project is to provide residential care to children in need of care and protection between 6 and 14 years of age. To protect the interests, well-being, safety and development of children within the context of family and community and to safeguard the rights of children . The children are supervised daily 24/7 by the child and youth care workers and follow very specific developmental programmes. These programmes focus upon life skills, independent living skills, victim empowerment, rights and responsibilities, sport and recreation and behavior modification. The children also receive support with their homework on a daily basis. The center Social Worker sees the children during the afternoon by means of individual therapy sessions and/or group work.
The Overstrand Child & Youth Care Centre not only serves needy children in the area, but also allows youngsters to remain fully integrated into their own community. The center has proven its sustainability by being in existence for the past 21 years.

The Overstrand Child & Youth Care Center is a project of Child Welfare SA Kleinmond which is a registered branch office of Child Welfare SA National Office. The center
functions relatively independently of Child Welfare SA Kleinmond and Child welfare SA National Office. The Youth Care Center is registered with the Department of Social Development and follows strict policies according to the Norms and Standards of the Children’s Act 38/2005.
