More about Old Mill Drift Guest Farm

“The Free State landscape gladdens my heart, no matter what my mood. When I am here I feel that nothing can shut me in; that my thoughts can roam as far as the horizons.” - Nelson Mandela

Nestled between the majestic Maluti Mountains, embraced by nothing but panoramic views of peaceful horizons, the crystal-clear waters of the Caledon River, and the swaying grasslands of the Eastern Free State Highlands, lies the Old Mill Drift Guest Farm.

Gifted to Colonel Hull by Queen Elizabeth II, for his bravery in the Boer War, steeped in history, this masterpiece of Mother Nature has been the canvas for many guests to create unforgettable memories. Some of the farm’s historical buildings were transformed into chalets that today offer visitors the comforts of modern living, without sacrificing the charm of yesteryear. Carved from the same sandstone that gave birth to the towering mountains of the Kingdom of Lesotho, the chalets are in perfect harmony with its spectacular surroundings.

The farm’s fruitful landscape is enclosed in parts by forest and saturated with three natural springs, three dams (summer season only), a few small waterfalls, and various natural pools that will soak the soul of any wary traveller.

So if you’re seeking a peace and quiet that only the beauty of nature and the nostalgia of history can instil, look no further than Old Mill Drift Guest Farm.
