The Premier Soccer League is an organisation that runs domestic League football in South Africa – both Premier Division and National First Division.
The Premier Division league is known as “Absa Premiership”.
It has 16 teams.
There are a number of Cup Competitions that are contested by teams in the Premier Division including the MTN 8 (for the teams that finish inside the top eight bracket), Telkom Knockout (contested by all 16 teams) and the Nedbank Cup (contested by all 16 teams including teams from the NFD and lower rank. This is South Africa’s own version of the FA Cup).
At the end of the season, the team rooted at the bottom gets relegated automatically while the 15th placed team plays play-offs with three teams that finished second, third and fourth in the NFD.
