Leadwood Lodge

Leadwood cottage is nestled on the banks of the Mlawula River, in the 3000h Mbuluzi Game Reserve, with access to 60,000 hectares of traversable game land including the adjoining Mlawula and Hlane Game Reserves.

The cottage can accommodate 2 adults and 1 child and has a small but sufficient cooking area with a fridge, microwave, 2 plate stove, toaster, and a kettle.

The Mbuluzi Game Reserve is bound by the beautiful Mbuluzi River and the Lubombo mountain range in the east and boasts a remarkable diversity of habitat. Flora includes the massive riverine forests with towering sycamore figs and wild date palms, rocky cliffs, knobthorn savannah, acacia bushveld and open grasslands.

Over 300 species of birds have been recorded in Mbuluzi, including rarities such as Dwarf Bittern, Narina Trogon, African Finfoot and Crested Guinea fowl.

Daytime game viewing includes Giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra, impala, bushbuck, Nyala, duiker, warthog, jackal, hyena and crocodile and Hippo

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the sunset period when nature draws her second breath. Walk through the veld or take a night drive with a spotlight and experience the excitement of seeing the nocturnal species including leopard, hyena, civet, genet, jackal, honey-badger, serval, antbear and pangolin!

The property is crossed by two meandering perennial rivers. The Mlawula and the Mbuluzi which support a healthy population of largescale yellowfish, as well as barbel and bream - a flyfisher's paradise.

At an altitude of between 150 and 460 meters, and only 70 kilometers from the Mozambique coast, the climate is typical of the bushveld of the Eastern Seaboard - warm during the day, with pleasant cool sea breezes in the evenings.
