Islamic Unity Convention

The Islamic Unity Convention was formed on 18-20 March 1994, i.e. one month before the 1st elections on 27th April 1994. More than 700 organizations were invited to attend its formation. Two hundred and fifty four of them responded and on the basis of joint convenorship the IUC was inaugurated on 20th March 1994 under the chairmanship of Sheikh A. K. Toffar.
The primary objective of the IUC is to unite all Muslim organizations under one umbrella body. By doing this we can co-ordinate our efforts and speak with one voice on all issues affecting the more than one million Muslims in South Africa and also inter-relate with approximately 450 million Muslims in the rest of Africa.
After 345 years of Muslim communities in SA the IUC is the only body that has invited all the Muslim organizations to democratically elect their representatives and to be accountable to their communities.
There is no justifications in the Quran or the Sunnah and Ahadith for disunity amongst Muslims.Therefore, all of us, individually and collectively are responsible for our unity. No one is exempted.
