More about ICebo Early Childhood Development Centre

We aim to develop a pre-school, library, after-care centre and various other community based projects.

One of our many objectives is to develop a Media /library / after-care / community centre where scholars and adults will have the opportunity to access the library, internet, homework support, English lessons and to attend computer training programmes. We aim to teach scholars / students / adults basic computer skills, introduction to the world wide web and any other form of computer training where we might see people have an interest in and we can obtain facilitators / trainers for such courses.

* Health, Hygiene and HIV awareness

* Environmental education

* Agricultural projects and assistance for farmers

* Skills development workshops and training

* Tool Bank - there is a desperate need for tools and garden / farming equipment. Personally we've spent a fortune on equipment and it being impossible to say NO when someone asks to borrow a hammer, wheel barrow, saw etc... we've found that we've been through quite a few of each... Our idea is to assist the locals to collect and build up some kind of a "tool bank" where all tools in the bank are allowed to be used as long as a returnable deposit is put down it.

* Clothes bank - community members will have access to the clothes bank when needed. This means that the entire community will benefit and not just one particular household as or when visitors to the area hand out bags of clothes.

* And the list goes on.....

OUR MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE TO:
• Improve the lives of hundreds of children and adults in this very rural and remote area.
• Build and develop a model preschool to provide an early childhood development programme to approximately 100 children aged from 3-6 years.
• To develop the child holistically, being spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, socially, nutritionally and environmentally conscious and aware.
• To improve access to nutrition, health and social support.
• Train local community members as pre-school teachers (NQF Level 4) and how to effectively and sustainably mange the project.
• Develop a library / after-care / community centre where scholars and adults will have the opportunity to access the library, internet, homework support and English lessons.
• Develop an after school enrichment programme.
• To educate and equip young children in the centre with the necessary skills they require for the transition into their schooling career.
• To teach English (speak, read and write) as an additional language to children and adults. This will give them the opportunity to build a better career for themselves.
• Actively educate students on environmental issues
• To ensure that the standard of care and education developed and maintained for the children in their community is acceptable.
• To ensure the center’s premises complies with the requirements of the relevant authorities.
• To create employment opportunities within the local community.
• To create/assist with various community outreach projects ie community gardens, skills development, sanitation and health, hygiene and HIV awareness.
• To equip parents with the necessary knowledge to effectively protect and care for their children.
• Offer annual workshops for parents and caregivers to participate in the process of learning alongside their children. This will in turn make parents realize the power and potential of a nurtured and educated child and they will in turn put pressure on the poorly managed local schools to improve and provide better quality education for their children.

With an increase in available preschools and child care centres, orphans and vulnerable children in the area will be more formally supported by a regular and monitored structure.

Pre-schoolers will benefit daily from emotional, intellectual, physical and nutritional support.

Our ultimate vision is to extend our services to neighbouring villages.
