More about Hopefield Town

Hopefield's claim to fame is that it is the oldest town on the West Coast. Not only does it lie in the heart of the Sandveld but it serves as the wheat and sheep farming centre of the region.

It is also well known for its honey, not least because over 500 different species of fynbos grow here, and attract bees by the dozen.

In 1853 Hopefield began its life on a farm called Langkuil, which lay on the Zoute River. The town still lies but 130 kilometres from Cape Town on the R45 and two of the original farms of the town are today national heritage sites.

Visit the unique little shop of the local Bee Keepers in Hopefield, called Simply Bee Natural Beeswax Products.

Their main attraction are the pure fynbos honey products that they produce from the Hopefield area.

Visitors to Hopefield enjoy strolling through this newest attraction in the town and enjoy the hospitality of the staff while being informed about the world of the Bees.

The Simply Bee Observation Centre, where these social little insects are constantly hard at work in their fascinating production factories.

Learn about the life-cycle of honey bees, and the methods that they employ to produce organic honey and propolis. In addition, visitors will learn about the healthful and healing properties of bee product.

Every Saturday the Hopefield locals invite you to join them at the weekly Mill Country Market where you can purchase the freshest of produce and a wide variety of freshly baked goods and exquisite hand-made designer products.
