Grootwater Avonture / Adventures

Grootwater is a game farm nestled in the malaria free Waterberg comprising of 2300 hectares natural bushveld. We are situated 60km north of Vaalwater, a mere 250 km from Pretoria. Weather in the Waterberg area is always good – summer 15°-38° and upwards and winter a mild 5°-25°!

Grootwater offers various routes (grading 2-4) for the 4x4 enthusiast who enjoy a rough and tough challenge. For the not so adventurous you can just take a leisurely drive around the farm. Grootwater offers a perfect bush getaway for the adventurous, not so adventurous, birding enthusiast, photographer or just for some nice well earned peace and quiet!

For the birding enthusiast there is an abundance of water birds at Poer se Loop and many more species have been spotted in and around the farm – over 210 species have been identified. We also have a resident pair of Fish Eagles that have made Poer se Loop their home and their call can often be heard.

Animal species found at Grootwater included Giraffe, Eland, Kudu, Zebra, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Nyala, Blesbuck, Impala, Bushbuck, Duiker and plenty more small game. The more elusive nocturnal animals include Bush pig, small and large Spotted Genet, Civet and Aardvark. Leopards and Brown Hyena occurred here naturally and roam freely between the farms. Also be on the look out for the always interesting ‘Small 5’ – Elephant Shrew, Rhino Beetle, Buffalo Weaver, Ant Lion and Leopard Tortoise.

Not forgetting the tree lovers, Grootwater has a wide variety, Marula, Tamboti, Rock Fig, Weeping Wattle and plenty more!
