More about Gallery Café

Since 2007,
Prince Albert Gallery owner Brent Phillips-White has been mingling his passions for art and food after taking over and expanding the original coffee shop on the stoep. The Café has since moved upstairs to become more of a fine dining experience. More hours are spent preparing the food than actually serving it.

The Café’s lamb, vegetable, chicken and game stocks are made from scratch and Brent Phillips-White takes great care to source local ingredients, many from the garden he planted to supply the restaurant. Other components of his meals come from farms and farmers’ markets between Prince Albert and George, oh, and the odd bit of Belgian Chocolate couriered monthly from Gauteng. The menu for the Gallery Café remains consistent with seasonal changes, made to accommodate the availability and quality of the produce.

Elements of the Mediterranean, Middle East and the wonderful spices of Asia, from India to Vietnam, are incorporated into many of the dishes. The most popular meals feature game (currently black wildebeest fillet), local Karoo lamb dishes and duck, port and cherry pies; the favourite vegetarian meal is the North Indian Brinjals (Aubergine) Albaras. In winter, heartier fare such as lamb bredie (stew), or heart- warming shanks in a rich tomato and red wine sauce, or osso bucco with risotto Milanese reappears. The Gallery Café now has a comprehensive wine list, ranging in price, with local and Klein Karoo vineyards featured.
