The Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality will open its doors immediately after the elections in August this year. It is the result of the amalgamation of Baviaans, Ikwezi and Camdeboo, which includes the towns of Graaff-Reinet, Aberdeen, Nieu-Bethesda, Jansenville, Klipplaat, Willowmore, Steytlerville, and their surrounding areas. The municipality will be the third largest in South Africa in terms of land area. It will be comprised of 14 wards and will have 27 councillors. It is based within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
