NUESTRA HISTORIA - OUR STORY

Tempting and provocative, bold and courageous, passionate and sultry, the "treasure Island" of Cuba is an aphrodisiac for the senses. A melting pot of African, European and Asian influences Cuba is filled with paradoxes and can only be understood by the heart. Her mysterious and often forbidden nature make her irresistibly attractive. Besides being famed for her rum, her cigars and the salsa, there is far more to Cuba's large soul. Bursting with rich culture, entrancing music, colourful history and immense diversity, Cuba shares many parallels with her African sister across the Atlantic.

It is this intrinsic bond that inspired the founders of Cuba Lounge to bring the true essence of Cuba to South African shores. Launching the first Cuba Lounge at Gateway in Umhlanga in 2007, the overwhelming success of this venue saw a second branch launched at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in the wake of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Over the last nine years Cuba Lounge has grown from strength to strength, hosting international acts like Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Fatman Scoop, Jay Sean, Dead Maus to mention a few. Cuba Lounge is now poised to expand nationally beginning with the re-launch of its flagship Gateway venue boasting a stunning new-look and followed by its first venue in Gauteng in early 2016.

The dual nature of modern-day Cuba, The Old vs The New, is captured in the new-look contemporary urban design which has been fused with traditional Cuban elements. Raw and rustic combined with sleek and glossy. Cuba Lounge's vivid colour scheme of red and black symbolises the passion, strength and determination behind the Cuban Revolution, values that strongly resonate with the South African spirit of Ubuntu. Bright splashes of colour and vintage elements add old-school charm and character.

By day the mood is relaxed and tasteful with airy outdoor seating or comfortable indoor seating, mouth-watering meals, sublime coffee and ambient Cuban music dancing through the air; the perfect setting for a lunch date or laidback sundowners. By night, we turn up the heat as the space is transformed into a pulsating, spirited social hub complete with lavish cocktails, exotic hookahs and beautiful people. Status is the name of the game. Contemporary, vibrant and just the right amount of sexy, the Glitterati make a statement as they mix with the cream of the crop and sway to the trendy music provided by our talented resident DJs.
