Coolmac

Background

In September 2001, Johan and Bernadene Potgieter, Marius and Elaine Louw, and Henk Mac Donald started a company called Secrivest One, trading as Gordonia Verkoeling en Elektries Groblersdal. The company mainly provided refrigeration installation and maintenance services and took on ad hoc electrical projects, mostly in the agricultural field.

In April 2006, Henk Mac Donald became the sole owner of the company and the trading name was changed to Coolmac (Pty) Ltd. Since then the company has gained recognition for extensive expertise in refrigeration design and installation, electrical and automation projects, plant monitoring, automation, and Engineering Best Practices maintenance. Its reputation and approach has resulted in growth beyond the agricultural sector into retail, commercial and industrial markets as well as beyond its humble beginnings in Groblersdal.

Capacity

Coolmac now has sales offices in both Johannesburg, Nelspruit and Polokwane and has grown its team of Coolmobile service vehicles to support this growing footprint. Coolmac makes a point of thoroughly understanding the needs of their customers and the offerings of service providers, thereby being in a position to source the right product for the job requirements and to design a refrigeration solution which best meets the needs of the customer.

With current energy prices and shortages in the country the need for cost- and energy-efficient refrigeration is non-negotiable for most businesses. To meet this need, e-Lumac Controls, a control system developed by Coolmac, provides the systems and controls to help cope with whatever Eskom does next.

The e-Lumac Control system further consists of control equipment and software for the commercial, agricultural and industrial sectors, with a particular focus on solutions for the refrigeration of perishable foods. Coolmac also provides a 24-hour monitoring service to companies with critical operation failure potential such as retail shops, abattoirs and fresh fruit cold rooms.

Coolmac’s sustainable and energy-efficient designs are developed in partnership with Energy Partners. Combining the skills of Coolmac with those of Energy Partners delivers end-to-end energy solutions, including measurement, design, finance, implementation/project management and maintenance.
