Objectives and Services
Buffalo Wildlife Management Services objectives when approaching a proposed development or management plan would be as follows:
- Strive to maintain an ecological system that functions with the minimum of management intervention.
- Re-establish and maintain viable populations of wildlife species that naturally occur within a protected area or reserve, providing that this is financially viable, including endangered species.
- Remove all exotic and alien species of fauna and flora within the proposed development (dependent upon management principles agreed upon).
- Manage and develop the area to ensure both economic and ecological sustainability for the long term benefit of the client/organization.
- Develop the resources of the community, through management, training and educational programs to manage the area.
- Ensure that the biological, historical and cultural diversity is maintained.
- Develop and manage consumptive and non-consumptive tourism.
- Promote ethnic, cultural and conservation diversity through sound and approved environmental programs.
- Pursue all avenues of dialogue with adjoining landowners and other conservation agencies, including neighbouring countries to contribute to enhance the area, management systems and the wellbeing of the project.
- Develop financial self-sufficiency through the wise use of renewable natural resources.
- Manage and administer the area under the umbrella of an established trust, for example – members, investors, tourism officials, local dignitaries, general manager of project, tribal representative of area, etc.
