More about Boland Kavaliers

BOLAND CAVALIERS:
The Boland Rugby Union’s senior professional team is called the Boland Cavaliers. The Boland Cavaliers competes in South Africa’s two most prestigious rugby tournaments, the Absa Currie Cup and the Vodacom Cup. The Boland Cavaliers used to play in the traditional Black and Gold colours of the Boland Rugby Union, but in 2011 the colour pink was added to their strip. This was done in order to get a fresh and more attractive ‘look and feel’, in order to support the Cavaliers’ attractive, running style of rugby.

BOLAND RUGBY UNION:
Boland Rugby was established in 1939 and is the 11th oldest rugby province in South Africa, with the largest base of clubs in South Africa (235 clubs). Boland Rugby represents the biggest geographical rugby area in South Africa, consisting of more than 15 000 club rugby players.

Boland Rugby has a strong heritage and history of excellence and is fully committed to transformation in SA Rugby. Boland Rugby is the biggest producer of Springbok “players of colour” since unification and the addition of the new rugby academy will be a further boost in the development of young rugby talent.
Boland Rugby’s biggest modern day contribution to the sport is the number of Springboks it has produced. Springboks, past and present who learned their trade in the Boland area include among others: Bolla Conradie, Hilton Lobberts, Derick Hougaard, Francois Hougaard, Jean de Villiers, Schalk Burger, JP Peterson, Andries Bekker, Gurthro Steenkamp, Heini Adams, Sampie Mastriet (Sevens), Danwel Demas (Sevens), Ryno Benjamin (Sevens), Ashley Johnson and Juan de Jongh.
