Bethany Home- Place Of Safety

Bethany Home Place of Safety was established by the Social Welfare Commission of the Diocese of Mthatha. This was in response to the need felt by the FCSU of the Police and Social Workers to have a place of safety for abandoned and /or abused children.

Bethany Home place of safety is supported by the belief that communities have to work towards finding solutions for the socio-economic challenges that they face. Factors such as poverty and HIV/AIDS are not individual issues but affect communities at large.

The children are referred by Social Workers, police and other officials as children needing care, support and protection. Most of them are victims of abuse and neglect while some have been orphans or abandoned. The aim is not to keep them indefinitely but to reintegrate them back into the communities through fostering or reunification with family members. Bethany has been offering this service for the past twelve years but the flow of children through our gates remains thick and fast.
