Mike Richardson cut his teeth developing marketing strategies for Swaziland’s Big Game Parks and became passionate in bringing international visitors to experience a modern conservation marvel. With a passion for the outdoors, ranging from walking in the proximity with Africa’s wildlife giants, sleeping under the stars to trail running and mountain biking; developing strategies for this burgeoning market was a neat fit. Mike was subsequently promoted to head up the Tourism division and found that role to be a great tool to instil the virtues of lifestyle oriented eco-tourism into the organization. The passion for this expanded beyond Big Game Parks and Swaziland and Mike’s new mission is to similarly expose a much broader region to the international market. This region is loosely defined as the Lubombos an area encompassing southern Kruger, southern Mozambique and all of Swaziland.

Vikki Crook started her career in Tourism within the hospitality sector, deeply passionate about the great outdoors and wildlife in particular she started work as a field guide in the Kruger National Park. Wanting to be even further immersed into the African Bush and gain an even deeper understanding of nature she studied further and eventually became a lead Trails Guide in Big Game area of the Greater Kruger National Park leading and conducting multi day hiking trails. It was during this period of spending her time on foot within Dangerous Game territory and assisting with camp logistics that she learnt what it takes to run smooth, safe and efficient tours. It was also during this period that she started to understand the profound impact that a trip exploring Africa can have on the hearts and minds of those unsuspecting souls visiting it. She became passionate about the travel industry after this and in particular making sure that her international visitors were experiencing the raw magic of Africa. With this new found passion she moved on in her career and took up a position within The Kingdom of Swaziland’s Big Game Parks managing the trailing division for the parks. During this post she built on her logistical management skills by providing guests with a selection of trails and excursions and the facilitation of these. It is this above mentioned range of experience and an absolute passion for the Lubombo triangle that directed her into starting up African Quiver with Mike.

Owing to Mike’s marketing background – African Quiver managed great success with a number of unique lodges most notably with Machangulo Beach Lodge. This enabled the lodges to increase sales and gain access to the trade, located in Cape Town and connected to Europe.
