With, very comprehensive, classes ranging from absolute beginners to advanced performance dance choreography, coupled with World Class instructors, we aim to create a platform that expands awareness of Salsa and the standards thereof in Durban KZN.

ABRAZAR (means EMBRACE in spanish) aims to achieve the elegance and grace in Salsa movements, yet still being true to its raw sexuality that oozed since the birth of salsa in the streets of Cuba and, as a result of the global melting pot, its EVOLUTION!

Specialising in LA on1 (cross body style), ABRAZAR also aims to introduce NY on2 and Puerto Rico on2.

Workshops on Rueda de Casino (Cuban) and Bachata will be monthly features at ABRAZAR!

FOUNDERS:

Whitney Smit
Whitney has surrendered to the sultry, seductive force that is SALSA when first had the aural invasion of cuban rhythms married to brass sections reminiscent of crooner Big Bands with african drums as a mistress in 2008. The love affair began!!!

The most natural progression started. MOVEMENT!

Whitney delved into the history of salsa dancing and explored most styles of dancing from different regions of the world.

Started teaching in mid 2010 with LA on1 and now all styles depending on what the music begs for.
Whitney has since gone on to host workshops all over SA and choreograph major performance pieces for corporate clients and events.
Now based in Durban KZN, the demand has been to intense and sparked the birth of ABRAZARsalsa.

Lize Labuschagne
Three years ago, what seemed to be just another night out with mates in the UK,sparked infatuation that lead to obsession as Salsa invaded Lize's life as only IT can do.

From that first class with a local Salsa Studio, she knew she was hooked and immediately committed to her new found love as she invested in that relationship with numerous courses!

LA on1 was the first of many styles that was delved into and continued the love affair when she landed in Durban SA.
More and More was needed to satisfy the insatiable craving that only salsa could bring. She continued lessons with Whitney Smit as more styles were introduced.

Being a salsa Force to be reckoned with in SA, Lize accepted the responsibility of aiding the expansion and level of salsa in KZN by instructing as ABRAZARsalsa.
